Young Urges Active Carriers To “Dig Deep” For COLCPE

NALC Executive Vice President William H. Young did not mince words in talking to legislative activists from Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia on May 10.

“Active letter carriers ought to be ashamed,” he said.

Young was not talking about their job performance. Or their dedication to the labor movement. He was talking about their support of the Committee on Letter Carriers Political Education (COLCPE).

He said that over the past 20 years, retired members of the union have carried the burden in support of COLCPE by a 2-1 margin – – even though more of the legislative successes have benefited active NALC members than retirees.

Young repeated the warning given time after time by President Sombrotto — that all the gains attained by the union in years of collective bargaining can be taken away with passage of one bill in Congress.

“This year we are going to see if active letter carriers will stand up.” Young said. “Each and everyone had the capability of giving. Dif deep this year and give to COLCPE!”
